Over the past few years, MARU has sponsored film screenings and discussions on social/polticial topics with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB)(the security state) and with DOXA (Vancouver’s Documentary Film Festival)(the screening of Ali Kazimi’s “Continuous Journey”).
MARU has also been a community organization supporter of the Think City consulations process on the directions which the citizens of Vancouver wish for their municipal leaders to follow.
In a joint project, the UBC Law Faculty & MARU, faciliated a research project on the topic:The Phenomenon Of Racial Profiling Via Security Measures In Canada. The project involved carrying out interviews with affected subject parties on the topic of racial profiling and assessing their comments. This study was funded by the Law Foundation of British Columbia, & RIM (Research on Immigration & Integration in the Metropolis). The completed study can be found on the Metropolis BC website
